The Thief from Outer Space (Episode #38)
Writer - Jackson Gillis
by Ray DutczakThis is my second favorite episode (the first being The Anti-Matter Man). Malachi Throne gave a very spectacular performance as 'the thief". We also get a rare opportunity to get Ted Cassidy , "Lurch" from the Addams Family, to show up in this episode as the slave. Malachi and Ted Cassidy really worked well together in this episode. I loved the relationship between Will and the Thief in this episode, The Thief trusts Will, only to get double-crossed in the end. Without a doubt, Bill Mumy is the star in this episode, and his acting is stupendous. I enjoyed seeing him and Ted in the furnace scene, where he instructs Will on lighting the furnace. Jonathan and Malachi exchange some amusing dialogue which lends to making this enjoyable to watch. Malachi's thief rules are memorable. In one scene, he tells Will to remember rule 21, "Never trust your best friend, except when you hold a hostage. Sobey Martin directs this episode brilliantly, supported by this great script. The script and acting lend to making this show all time favorite. Bill Mumy: "I don't really have any special memories from this episode. I can say that Malachi Thorn was one of my favorite guests. The chemistry between us was very good, and I enjoyed filming this episode. No funny tales to tell about this one, they all blended into one memory." Jonathan Harris: "This is a very good episode. I remember Malachi Thorn, who was a friend of mine, coming on the set the first day of shooting and greeting everyone with a warm hello. We had a beautiful set for the episode, and Malachi's costume was quite elaborate. We still, to this day, occasionally meet somewhere or another. "Ted Cassidy was a huge man with a deep voice, and he took his part quite seriously. I had a lot of fun shooting The Thief From Outer Space, and it turned out to be a goody."
