A tidal wave will destroy much of the free world, but Admiral Nelson has a plan to stop it -- Seaview will set off a nuclear explosion at the North Pole. Evil forces seek to destroy Nelson before he completes his plan. The Seaview's original Skipper is shot and Lee Crane is temporarily transferred from the US Navy to handle the mission.

This is the pilot episode. It was filmed in color, even though the first season was broadcast in black & white.

Mega Voyage fan Scott McIntyre explains some differences between the unaired pilot and the aired pilot. Special Thanks to Scott for his insight.

The theme for the un-aired pilot is different from the
series version. There is also some background music
which was changed for the aired version (which
generally tracked music written for The Village of
Guilt). The episode now in syundication and on
Columbia House tape (the color version) uses the
opening theme which is the original theme intended for
the series. There are many musical differences in the
aired and un-aired pilots. The re-mixed music from
future episodes was an improvement in the feel and
overall tone of the episode. Some music from the movie
was also used in the unaired pilot.

In the unaird version, Dr. Gamma is played by Theodore
Marcuse. However, in the aired pilot, one can see the
face of Werner Klemperer in certain shots. When the
original 47 minute pilot was re-edited and expanded
for airing, certain scenes with Dr. Gamma were
re-shot. For whatever reason, Irwin Allen did not use
Mr. Marcuse for those scenes and figured no one would
notice the difference in voice and appearance. The
original Dr. Gamma scenes included unintentionally
funny bits as Gamma flinging the huge Seaview model
off the table as his staff stares vacantly and using
Roman thumb-down gestures instead of commands.

The unaired pilot is missing Lee Crane sneaking aboard
and all references to it. Without that incident,
Kowalski has no reason to dislike Crane.

In the aired version, the impression is made that Dr.
Gamma and his men are communists. The unaired pilot
makes it ovbious they are unaffiliated with any
government.

A couple of lines here and there are different or
dropped from the unaired pilot.

The end credits are longer.
