Rokende Jan (Smoking John) is a Belgian cigar manufacturer who, starting in
1966, sold their product with collectible series of bands around the
cigars. From dinosaurs, sailing ships and toadstools to US State crests,
classic artists, inventors and historical kings, there was a wide variety to
chose from. Rokende Jan also released several cigar band series
based on US television programming: Brady Bunch, Bugaloos, Hawaii 50,
Medical Center, Mission Impossible and Dean Martin. Although earlier series
have the entire firm name printed, by 1969, just the initials RJ were used,
allowing the right hand side of the image to be used for captions as needed.
